Here are some overused resume keywords that you may want to avoid or replace on your resume:
- “Responsible for”: This resume keyword is too vague and doesn’t really say anything about what you actually did in a particular role. Instead, use specific action verbs to describe your duties and responsibilities.
- “Team player”: This phrase is so common that it has become almost meaningless. Instead, describe specific examples of how you have worked effectively in a team setting.
- “Expert”: This is a very strong resume keyword, and unless you can back it up with concrete evidence, it may come across as arrogant or pompous. Instead, use words like “proficient” or “skilled” to describe your level of expertise.
- “Hard worker”: This phrase is cliché and doesn’t really tell the employer anything about your skills or abilities. Instead, use specific examples of your work ethic and dedication to demonstrate your work ethic.
- “Flexible”: This word can be interpreted in many different ways, and it’s not clear what you are actually offering the employer. Instead, use specific examples to demonstrate your adaptability and ability to handle change.
- “Results-oriented”: This phrase is overused and doesn’t really tell the employer anything about what you have actually accomplished. Instead, use specific examples of your achievements and the results you have delivered.
- “Creative”: This is another subjective term that does not give any concrete examples of your creative skills or achievements.
- “Proactive”: This word is often used to describe people who take initiative, but it can be overused and may not provide any specific examples of your ability to take initiative.
- “Dynamic”: This resume keyword is often used to describe people who are energetic and adaptable, but it can be overused and may not provide any specific examples of your abilities.
- “Problem-solver”: While it is important to be able to solve problems, this phrase is overused and does not provide any specific examples of your problem-solving skills.
While you may choose to add these resume keywords to your resume, please remember to add context and specific examples to back them up!
